Patient outcomes and surgeon satisfaction are critical to us. We’ve earned the trust of thousands of surgeons because we staff ORs with highly trained, dependable perfusionists dedicated to improving patient outcomes.
We rely on clinical data to set benchmarks and drive innovation that creates efficient and cost-effective operating rooms. This data collection is unlike any other in the industry and since we take part in 1 in 8 of all heart surgeries, we have the unique capability of collecting from a magnitude of cases. Our SpecialtyCare Operative Procedural Registry™ (SCOPE) holds data from every procedure so that our medical team can analyze it and make informed decisions. Our perfusion leadership team is widely published in respected peer-reviewed medical journals and with their findings from SCOPE, they continue to shape the future of the perfusion industry.
In this podcast we dive deep into the healthcare space, from the people that dedicate their lives to patient care to the companies improving patient outcomes through innovation. From well-respected surgeons and thought leaders to those on the front lines of healthcare, we’ll bring you conversations with those making a difference both in the OR and beyond. Through in-depth interviews with nurses, sterile processing technicians, clinical managers, and even healthcare technology companies and startups, we’ll discuss what’s on the horizon in the industry in regards to careers, technology, and innovation.
SpecialtyCare employs the largest professional group of perfusionists in the country. Our clinicians are educated, highly trained, and experienced. In the end, everyone is certified through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, obtains state licensure when need be (depending on the state), and meets specific facility requirements. When it comes to jobs in perfusion, we promote the industry’s standards of care and believe patients are the number one priority.
SpecialtyCare is proud to employ the largest professional group of perfusionists in the country. Our clinicians—certified through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)—are state licensed, where applicable, and meet specific facility requirements. We deliver excellence by ensuring our associates are highly trained, experienced and ready to integrate into your OR team.
Perfusionists can also be responsible for putting patients on heart-assist devices. These are electronic mechanical devices that can replace the function of the heart partially or completely. These devices are sometimes used by patients awaiting heart transplant or as a bridge to the recovery stage. Perfusionists may play a supportive role in patients who are undergoing lung or liver transplants. They may also play a role in obtaining donor organs that are needed for transplant operations. It’s important to understand that while the perfusionist is responsible for operating the heart-lung machine in any of these procedures, the surgeon in charge takes final medical responsibility for the entire surgical operation. Perfusionists will draw on their training so that they become effective and efficient members of the cardiovascular surgery team. They must work with accuracy at all times and it’s essential they work well under intense pressure.
Perfusionists must have the right state of mind to be responsive to emergency situations that arise in the operating room. Things can change in a second’s notice. Perfusionists also need to have the physical stamina to still be able to function well in surgical operations that could last for several hours.
